Solar Plant Wire Mesh on Concrete Posts
A long perimeter run closing a large solar power plant site with uncoated galvanised woven wire mesh carried on concrete posts.
The photograph shows the perimeter line running past rows of panels that reach to the horizon. The size of the site turns this into an enclosure problem where the cost per metre adds up quickly, so keeping the line economical at that scale was the first condition on the choice of material.
Concrete posts were the right carrier for a run of this length: they carry no corrosion risk where they meet the soil, and the tensioning holes cast into the body speed the installation up. Uncoated galvanised woven wire mesh then made it possible to build a longer line on the same budget; here too the corner posts were braced with struts.
